“Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labor, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants” (Philippians 2:25).
Where would Paul the great Apostle ever be without men like Epaphroditus serving with him in ministry? In an interesting way the Holy Spirit describes the working of the body in 1 Corinthians 12 and compares it with the working of the church. Each body part contributes to the overall working of that body. Likewise in the local church, God has a wonderful way of putting His people together to function and serve harmoniously. Wouldn’t it have been tragic if Epaphroditus had pouted and said, “If I can’t be the Apostle, I don’t want to serve!” Rather, he was willing for Paul to serve in the forefront and he would serve in a more behind-the-scenes kind of ministry. Over the years, I have always been very mindful of those serving around me. Without them I would be in BIG trouble. How about you? Are you content to serve in the capacity the Lord has chosen for you?
For today: I want to be a servant of the Lord, not a promoter of self. How about you?
