“But walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor” (Ephesians 5:2).
I left you yesterday in the office with Tom, the boss, the supervisor, and Sue, the co-worker. Tom’s faith was evident and his lifestyle convicted Sue of the way she lived. Her actions and accusations were horrible. Thankfully Tom’s wife believed him. The other co-workers vouched for Tom and gladly, the boss believed him. The small company had no Human Resource department. While not totally professional, the owner of the company said, “Tom, I have no idea how to handle this. Sue here has accused you of some terrible things. Now she’s confessed to me that she was lying. I am going to fire her, but I thought that you ought to hear what she has to say first.” Sue’s hardened face softened and she cried. “I am so sorry, Tom. I was foolish and downright evil in what I did to you. I didn’t like your faith showing so clearly,” she said in genuine brokenness. Her apology lasted another few minutes. Tom’s response demonstrated the love of Christ. He accepted her apology. He forgave her and assured her that he would not take civil action for the way she defamed him. “Sue, if it were up to me, I would not fire you. I’d give you another chance. But that is up to Mr. T. However, from my heart, I want you to know that the Lord Jesus has forgiven me, so I can forgive you.”
For today: How will you show the love of Christ today?
