“In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, flee as a bird to your mountain?” (Psalm 11:1).
A commotion took place in the office complex, and before Pastor Kenward could get to the door, his secretary Marie was holding in her arms the crumpled form of a lady who was broken in sorrow and shame. “Honey,” Marie said, “we are glad that you came. No matter what has happened, you’ve come to the right place. I don’t even know your name yet, but please meet our pastor. He’s Pastor Kenward. He will help you,” and with that she helped the lady into the pastor’s office. Seated across from him the lady finally managed to introduce herself, followed by the statement, “I have so many troubles, I wish I could be a bird and simply fly away.” Pastor Kenward had the immediate thought, “Great way to make a way for me to show You from Scripture how not to fly away as a bird to a mountain but how to fly to the Lord.” Twenty minutes later he showed her our verse for today. The same is true for us. We can’t fly like a bird to our imaginary places of refuge, but we can, better yet, fly to the Lord and put our trust in Him.
For today: If we choose between a mountain or the Lord as a place of safety, the wise choice will always be to trust in the Lord.
