“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand” (Psalm 95:6-7).
Though she loved all of God’s Word, Nancy especially loved the Psalms. She wrestled with the profound feelings of rejection as her husband walked out of her life six years ago. The church family with whom she had been worshipping for years suddenly abandoned her. She assumed that it was because folks didn’t know what to say. However, just when she needed her church family the most, their connection with her was the least. Then came the day when her manager asked her to consider moving to one of the branch offices which would require a move because of the distance. She prayed and sensed that this was the Lord’s plan. Wouldn’t you know it? She bought a home right across from Wayne and Shelley who raised sheep. Soon a wonderful relationship developed as she discovered that they were not only neighbors, they were brothers and sisters in Christ who deeply cared about Nancy and warmly welcomed her into their lives. I’ll tell you tomorrow about the great lesson she learned one afternoon as she arrived home from work.
A great object lesson is coming tomorrow. For today, let’s be careful not to withdraw from folks who are going through struggles. Even if it is uncomfortable, go ahead and tell them, “I don’t know what to say, but I care about you.”
