We will call him Daniel. Be assured, Daniel was going to put his new foster mom to the test. For a long time, no one really cared what he did as long as he didn’t hurt anyone else. He ignored the rules at school, and many of his foster homes had poor supervision. When he would get in trouble at school, he simply was removed and taken to a new foster home. He knew how to play the system for all it was worth.
Until, that is, he moved into the home of the couple that we’ll call Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter. He never had been in a home like this. They prayed before their meals. They had the “rules of house” that he was expected to respect. They had abundance of food, and he was allowed to have seconds at supper. Mr. and Mrs. C assured him that he was welcome to call them Mom and Dad if he wished. They read the Bible and prayed before bedtime. They even went to church!
He decided to put them to the test. Other foster parents gave up on him and soon he would be moved. Deliberately he ignored one of the “rules of the house” which was to try and get as much homework done (with help) before supper. Mrs. C. didn’t give up on him and explained that the Lord loved him and so did she. “Because we love you, we want the best for you.” Mrs. C. would either read several verses of Scripture or she would make him read them. And guess what? The persistent love of the Carpenters and the wonderful power of the Word of God reached his heart.
“So shall my Word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).
Daniel was adopted by the Carpenters and today is grown with his own family. It is amazing what God’s Word can do. How are the Scriptures impacting your life?
For today: Closed Bibles stored high on the shelf will never replace open Bibles being read and obeyed. I have a great question that I cannot wait until tomorrow to ask you.
