What a great lesson from the Bible camp that week. But first, let me share the wonderful verses that we will enjoy remembering today.
“Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green” (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
“Hey, Guys!” the senior counselor called to her cabin of youth campers. “Come here just a second. I want to show you something,” this very wise cabin counselor said to her fourteen young campers. It had been a hot and very dry summer. The grass in the campground had turned from a bright green to a light brown. It felt crunchy under foot. Even though the maintenance crew tried to water the immediate lawns surrounding the cabins, everything was very dry. Everything was brittle, that is, except that which was growing along the edge of the river. “Look here. Look up and down the riverbank. See how green everything is down here?” she said to her campers. “The river keeps things watered through their root system. That’s just what Jeremiah meant in Jeremiah 17:7-8.”
She had a great time providing a living illustration of what trusting the LORD even in hard times would look like. Just what I need today. How about you?
For today: Put your trust in the Lord. He never runs out of resources, even in the most difficult of days.
