Recently I had the opportunity to preach from this wonderful text. Please allow me to share just a verse and together today we will rejoice in our awesome Savior.
“But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men” (Matthew 9:8).
The Lord Jesus came into the city, and rather quickly, it would seem, a very seriously ill man was brought to him on a stretcher. The Lord saw their faith and not only was about to heal the man, He was also going to forgive this man’s sins. Certain of the scribes were lurking nearby and immediately pronounced “blasphemy” over the situation. Powerfully and perfectly the Lord Jesus proclaimed, “But that you may know that the Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith He to the sick of the palsy,) ‘Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house” (Matthew 9: 6).
Immediately the sick man rose as a testimony of the Lord’s gracious power. I want to encourage you. Are you praying for someone and it seems nearly impossible for that person to come to know the Lord? Don’t give up. This same Lord Jesus has all power and authority still today.
One closing thought to take with you today: As the people of long ago marveled at the Lord’s amazing work, may we still today!
