“A word spoken in due season, how good is it”” (Proverbs 15:23b).
Have you ever slipped and either said something that you shouldn’t have or used a tone of voice that you wished you hadn’t used? Just as I guessed. You too, huh? When it comes right down to it, I would imagine that everyone has, at one time or another, been guilty of the old “open mouth and insert foot” kind of situation. The writer of this proverb reminds us of the importance of thinking before we speak, guarding our words and our tone, and using our voices to speak wholesomely. Paul put it this way, “Speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15).
For today: May my words be true and my tone encouraging. May my words not needlessly wound and my conversation be in love.
