“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in His ways” (Psalm 128:1).
Bill’s reputation was excellent. He was one of the hardest working and most conscientious employees that the McMartin Family Funeral Homes had ever employed. His love for the Lord, compassion for people, and commitment to the three McMartin Funeral Homes combined to make his work ethic nearly flawless. Bill loved his work. Even though he was with people at some of the most tragic and heart wrenching times of their lives, he knew that this is what the Lord wanted him to be doing. His employers loved and trusted him. One day a rather large amount of money turned up missing when he was alone in the Funeral Home. It was the accountant who spotted it missing. Hank McMartin said to his wife and his accountant, “I know it doesn’t look good. But I can tell you that Bill fears the LORD. He walks in His ways and has been a faithful worker in our family. I know there must be an explanation. But I know it is not Bill. He would not do this.” The next day Bill reported to work as usual and seemed to sense that the accountant acted a little strange around him. He asked her if everything was all right. She only would reply “I don’t want to talk about it.” The next day Hank McMartin came to the accountant’s office. “I told you so,” he said. “I accidently tucked the envelope with the money in between the paperwork for the Batavia family. It was here all along. I knew Bill’s testimony well enough that I knew he didn’t take it. I told you so,” Hank told her.
For today: How about us? Do we have such a testimony of fearing the Lord and walking in His ways?
