I know that it is important, very important, when teaching someone to drive a car to remind them to keep looking forward, down the road (not at the edge of the hood of the vehicle), and glance to the left and right as they are driving. Occasionally, it is wise to glance in the rearview mirrors. But it is only a glance. Safe drivers do not stare for lengthy periods of time in the rearview mirror. When teaching someone how to drive a bus, there are even more mirrors to monitor and glance into.
With that in mind, I really am looking forward. I really am stretching to the course that the Lord has laid ahead of me. I am with joy looking with eager anticipation for that day that I shall arrive at the finish line when I will meet the Lord Jesus face to face. But today is a glance back in the rearview mirror. Today I am taking you back to the very first “Dr. Mike’s Daily Prescription” which posted on April 1st, 2013. Here it is.
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble…” (Nahum 1:7).
When the day is hard and the trial severe, you will again discover that God is good and is a stronghold. This gives the idea of being a “safe, strong shelter.” God is bigger than any problem.
For today: Picture the Lord being your strong refuge. He is bigger and stronger than any problem today.
You might be wondering, “Why in the world is it so short, Dr. Mike?”
The answer demonstrates my “little, very little faith.” Many years ago I had been somewhat resisting with what those in our IT department at BCP were saying. They told me that I needed to write a daily devotional. I was very convinced that no one would read them, so I wasn’t going to spend time doing much writing.
I was wrong.
These little Daily Prescriptions have gone out every day, 365 days a year, for eleven years to places to which I will never travel, shared and passed on to others by people I have never met, arriving “at just the right time” over and over again. Thank you for allowing me to come to you each day. If these Daily Prescriptions are a help and blessing to you, may I ask you to invite your family and friends to sign up for them on the bottom right-hand side of my homepage at www.michaelpeck.org?
