“…For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required…” (Luke 12:48).

One day from out of nowhere, one of my Bible school professors, Dr. Floyd Ellis, took my arm and quoted this verse to me. I never forgot it. The Lord has given so much to us, surely He will require us to be good stewards and use our blessings in a wise way. How will this be practiced in your life today?

For today: As the old hymn puts it, “Count your many blessings, name them one by one…”

“…I do always those things that please Him” (John 8:29).

We belong to a wonderful Savior. The Lord Jesus always did those things that were pleasing to His Father. Today, you can rest assured that your trust in Christ is well placed. You might not understand what He is doing right now, but you can be sure it is perfect and always right.

For today: When you cannot understand the plan, trust the master designer.

“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the

day of trouble…”  (Nahum 1:7).

When the day is hard and the trial severe, you will again discover that God is good and is a stronghold, which gives the idea of being a “safe, strong shelter.”

For today:

Picture the Lord being your strong refuge. He is bigger and stronger than any problem today.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:14).

What a powerful verse! First we must set the Lord apart and give Him first place in our hearts. Then we are to ask the Lord to help us to have a readiness to answer questions about our hope. This answer is not to be given in an arrogant or overbearing way. Rather it is to be given graciously, quietly, and respectfully. How many people will cross your path today that need to hear of your assurance in the Lord? Ask the Lord to help you to be intentional in your witness and alert in your readiness. Have you thought about asking your friends to check out these daily prescriptions?

For today: “Setting the Lord apart in your heart” and “readily answering” sound like a winning combination!

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful…” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

It is not that misery loves company. Rather, there is comfort in knowing that the things I face and the temptations that pull me basically are the same things that those around me also face. I will not encounter something totally unique and new to me. In those times of temptations, I can look to the Lord who is ever faithful. Someone has said, “God knows our limits and limits our loads.” He is the Source of victory and provision when temptation is strong.

For today: It is not a question if you will be tempted today but when you are tempted today, will you look to the faithful Lord for help and strength?
