“Be the Mom Now and the Friend Later”
“A great privilege and responsibility has been bestowed upon you, Maddie. I cannot think of a higher privilege than being a parent,” said Maddie’s grandma as she visited her family in the hospital. A few hours earlier, Maddie had given birth to Julie Elizabeth. Mark and Maddie were so thrilled as they lovingly watched Grandma holding their little baby girl.
“Grandma, what will be the most important thing you can tell me about being a Mama?” Maddie asked.
“Without a doubt, it will be to love the Lord Jesus, for you and your husband to love each other, and, Honey, for the next twenty years, be the parent. Becoming the friend will come later on. But for now, little Julie needs you to be the parent!”
“Forsake not the law of your mother” (Proverbs 1:8).
