The Gathering Place Where Family Matters

“He Took My Place!”

“Forsaken” is a terrible word. It is an agonizing wound that shoots straight through the heart. Christ Jesus was “forsaken” by His Holy Father when He took our sins upon Himself. Think of what took place at Calvary.
1. The Sin. The Holy One, the only Holy One, became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21).
2. The Sacrifice. The One Who was the object of honor and worship became the sacrificial offering (Hebrews 7:27).
3. The Severance. The One Who enjoyed uninterrupted fellowship was now cut off (Daniel 9:26).
4. The Suffering. The One Who was the joy of the Father now became the object of His wrath (Isaiah 53:5-6).

“For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

“So Much for Pilate’s Security System!”

The religious leaders’ plan was spelled out (Matthew 27:63).  The religious leaders knew that the Lord Jesus had claimed He would rise in three days. “Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day,” they requested Pilate (Matthew 27:64). Pilate agreed, and the guards were ordered to watch and the stone was sealed (Matthew 27:65-66). The best of Rome stood watch and made sure that no disciple could get through. Then came Sunday morning! The angel descended, a mighty earthquake shook the land, the stone was rolled away, and for all the security of that day, the angel sat on the stone (Matthew 28:2). Can you begin to catch a picture of the moment? The stone was to hold Him in, but it became a place for the angel to simply sit and wait! Oh yes, what about the best of the Roman soldiers? “For fear of Him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men” (Matthew 28:4). Christ the Lord wins! His victory is amazing. “He Was Called a Deceiver! We Call Him Lord!”When the Lord Jesus died, His body was laid in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathaea.  In arrogance the chief priests made request to Pilate to secure His tomb. In doing so, they told Pilate that Jesus was a deceiver (Matthew 27:63), claiming that in three days He would rise again. The foolish plan was to seal the tomb so that no disciple could take His body. How terrible to call Him a deceiver. Pilate agreed to their demands and made the tomb secure. It is hard to imagine such hardness and arrogance. The religious leaders called Him the deceiver. We know that He gloriously arose from the dead. We call Him Lord.
