“For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
Tax collectors were hated in Jesus’ time. Rome held Israel under its vile and vicious control. It was sickening to the Jewish people to have to pay taxes to such a government. Tax collectors not only collected the legal taxes, they often added to it to compensate themselves royally. Such was the man Zacchaeus in our text. If you have a few moments, read Luke 19:1-10, and there you will find the grace of the Lord Jesus in full operation. This corrupt tax collector was gloriously saved and instead of being stingy and greedy, his conversion wrought generosity and restoration to those he had wronged. What a wonderful day that was when Jesus entered Jericho and met Zacchaeus. Are you as thrilled with His salvation and how does His grace show in your life?
For today: Rather than thinking of Zacchaeus’ shortness, focus on the HUGE change that came to him that day.
