“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Psalm 51:5).
King David was not saying that his parents had sinned by conceiving him. He was simply saying that as a life begins at conception, that sinful nature is passed from the parent to the child. Randy looked frazzled. In fact he yawned twice while speaking with his deacon in the foyer of the church. “I have just two questions for you, Ken,” Randy said. “First, as the parent of a newborn, will I ever sleep again? Second, as a parent of a preschooler, why does my child act this way?” Ken laughed at the poor man! He quietly said, “Well, Randy, there’s lots I don’t know much about. But with seven kids, I can assure you that you will sleep again…someday! As to your second question, your child acts this way because she is related to you, and you and your child are related to Adam! That’s what King David said in Psalm fifty-one and verse five.” You just never know what is going to come up for conversation in the church foyer!
For today: It is good for us to remember that even though we know Christ as Savior, we still have a sinful nature. Be on guard!
