“The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life” (Proverbs 10:11).
On hot days, there is nothing as refreshing as a cup of very cold water. The neighborhood boys took a break for a couple of minutes as the afternoon wore on. They were thirsty. I had a whole tray full of plastic cups on which I had written their names. Gulping down the first plastic cupful, most were ready for some more cold water. “Thanks, Grandpa,” Hunter said. “Yeah, thanks Hunter’s Grandpa,” several of them said as they charged off my front porch last summer. I watched as the boys were back at basketball on my driveway and thought of how the cold water was appreciated. And then I thought of this verse. I have been privileged to stand at the side of some very righteous men (and ladies) over my lifetime. Their words were refreshing and life-giving. They were just like a well of life. I want my words and my mouth to be like that. How about you?
For today: So when we speak, are our words like a cold glass of water on a hot day?
