Miraculous.

I don’t know how else to describe the amazing work of the Lord Jesus. Consider this.

“And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fishes He looked up to Heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided He among them all. And they did all eat, and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fishes. And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men” (Mark 6:41-44).

How absolutely impressive it is to watch the Lord Jesus work. He is able to do this indescribable miracle with grace and glory. Five thousand men, not to mention women and children, were fed from five little loaves of bread and two very small fish. After the Lord gave thanks, instantaneously the creation and multiplication of so much food occurred at His hand as He broke them, and not only was everyone fed and filled, twelve baskets of leftovers remained!

What problems are you facing today? I can assure you that your awesome Lord is able to handle them well. His resources are limitless. His power is without measure. Come to Him and trust Him.

May I ask a closing question? Does something seem impossible to you? He specializes in the impossible. Trust Him and be content with His answer.

We thought of a couple of verses from Psalm 105 yesterday. Thanks for allowing me to share a couple more verses from this wonderful Psalm.

“Remember His marvelous works that He hath done; His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth. He is the LORD our God: His judgments are in all the earth” (Psalm 105:5, 7).

I find that the older I grow the more forgetful I become. I know that we older folks have to work harder to remember the important things in life. The Psalmist counsels us to remember the Lord’s amazing works, wonders, and the words of His mouth. We need to be careful not to allow the disappointments and discouragements of life to invade and capture our attention.

I suspect that our spiritual enemy greatly delights in watching us lose sight of the blessing and joy of remembering that our great God is at work in this world. What a great blessing to watch what He is doing!

This is what I am asking the Lord: Your awesome God is working throughout the world. Ask the Lord to help you to rejoice in what He is doing.

Simply stated, The LORD our God is awesome and worthy of our worship.

“Glory in His holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD, and His strength: seek His face forevermore” (Psalm 105:3-4).

We don’t know who wrote Psalm 105, but we do know that it is great in its purpose and grand in its illustration! The purpose is to remind the believer that the LORD our God is awesome and worthy of our worship. Believers of every generation will be wise to seek Him and to trust in Him alone.

The illustration is a history lesson of the time from Abraham to the wandering of God’s people in the wilderness. All throughout this time God demonstrated His faithfulness to undeserving people. The application today is that being a Christian is not simply once a week going to church and going through the motions. It is a day-by-day, hour-by-hour walk with our incredible Lord and glorying in His holy name. He wants to become more real and intimate in our lives. How wonderful He is!

Take this with you today: I want to know Him better; hence, I will be in His Word today. How about you?

I have a Bible verse for us and inside information on a conversation that took place quite some time ago between a pastor and his wife.

“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof” (Romans 13:14).

Pastor Kenward came home from the office and privately shared with his wife about the conversation he had had with a person who had a testimony of knowing the Lord Jesus as her Savior.

He said, “Peggy told me that I could tell you about how greatly she desires to break the habit of smoking. She vividly told me how much she hates this dirty, rotten habit. Nothing would make her happier than when the day comes that she doesn’t smoke anymore. We had a good conversation about putting on the Lord Jesus Christ and what that means. I thought she understood and that things were going well until she told me that she would do everything I said but would keep just one pack of cigarettes in the cupboard, “in case it didn’t work.”

There was silence in the little kitchen of the church parsonage.

Mrs. Kenward broke the silence by saying, “Keeping a pack in case it doesn’t work practically guarantees that it won’t work. Living through the Lord’s power will not make us perfect, but we must submit to Him, seek His power in our lives daily and make no provision for the flesh.”

The pastor’s wife was so very correct.

Please take this with you today: This is important for each of us I want the Lord to help me to become the kind of believer He wants me to be. How about you?

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).

We spoke yesterday of Habakkuk and his growing perplexity with the sinfulness of his society and the way God was working. To this dismayed prophet God reminded, “The just shall live by his faith.” Yesterday I told you that as I am growing older, two things are taking place in my life. Here they are today.

First, I am growing more and more saddened by the increasing sinfulness in our society. The effects of wickedness and sin are very hard to endure.

Second, I am growing more and more confident that God is Who He says He is.

I am stronger than ever in my personal conviction that our awesome God is the Sovereign Who can be trusted, known, and loved. I want my heart to be tender and trusting. How do we receive this faith? It comes through investing time in His Word and thereby getting to know Him better.
