“So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs” (three or four miles) “they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. But He saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid” (John 6:19-20).
Imagine this! The disciples were in the middle of the sea and in the middle of a storm. These experienced sailors were in the fight of their lives. John points out that it was dark and Jesus was not with them (6:17). Suddenly, in the shadows they see a figure making His way along toward them. He’s walking on the water, and they were terrified. Quickly the Lord spoke to them and with reassurance said, “It is I; be not afraid.” Perhaps there are dozens of readers today who are going through some terrifying days. Not to minimize your situation, but there is great delight and strength for the believer by faith to hear the Lord speak calming words, “It is I. Be not afraid.”
For today: How we need the Lord Jesus in every situation of life! Don’t try and make it without Him.
