“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone” (Matthew 23:23).

Herbie was an unusual man. He was very outspoken and opinionated about most things. It seemed that wherever he went, whether it was at work, at church, or at home, Herbie gave great detail to things that really didn’t matter very much. He was very upset with how the man parked his car next to him. It wasn’t perfectly straight in the way it was left. Yet Herbie’s car had a headlight that had been burned out for several months! He became obnoxious toward his son for forgetting to pick up his socks from the living room. Yet Herbie pretty much left a mess wherever he went. Last night’s popcorn bowl, a nearly empty diet Coke glass, and yesterday’s newspaper were left in a cluttered mess by Herbie’s chair. Come to think of it he lived pretty much like the Pharisees and scribes. He was fussy over very minute details of things that were not important. Yet the big important things he left without being dealt with most times. I don’t want to live like that. Do you? So today I am going to try and give as much focus to the more important things as I tend to do with the little things.

For today: I want to be such a focused believer that I will major on the major things and minor on the minor things. How about you?
