“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
Yesterday we spoke about the fact that Mary’s child must be named “Jesus” because He would save His people from their sins. The idea of “save” is to rescue from destruction and danger. Specifically, Joseph was told that this baby would be the One to save people from their sins. This doesn’t mean that we become perfect here in this life. But we who trust in the Lord Jesus are wonderfully delivered from the penalty of sin, we are being saved from the power of sin, and someday we will be saved from the very presence of sin. That is the greatest gift that could ever be given to anyone. I am so thankful for that wonderful gift from my amazing Savior.
For today: Isn’t it wonderful to know the Lord Jesus? Don’t you wish everyone did?
