“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” (Philippians 4:11).
She smiled and hugged her husband as she teasingly said, “I never have had a desire to move down south in the heat and humidity. But if this is where the Lord is leading us, I’ll be like Paul and be content in whatever state I’m in.” Her pastor husband started to thank her for being so willing but also to remind her about what Paul meant about “state.” Before he could say a word she quickly added, “And I know, my preacher husband, what the context of Philippians four is all about. I know it was about his having much or having little, and we’ve surely been there, haven’t we? But I am still going to be content in whatever state I’m in.” Her husband laughed, hugged her and thanked the Lord for such a partner. How is it with you, my friend? Sometimes we create our own bad state and need help getting out of it. When we are in our God’s will, we can be content with His state for our lives.
For today: Contentment must never be confused with laziness! May our contentment be Godly.
