“And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women…Fear not, Mary: for thou has found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shall bring forth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS” (Luke 1:28, 31).
Many have wondered what Mary was doing. It would appear, although we don’t know for sure, that she was busy about her day. The Angel “came in unto her” tends to indicate that he broke into her daily routine. It was sudden. It took just a moment or two for Gabriel’s announcement, but Mary’s entire life changed direction forever. Of course, she was not alone. Her fiancé, Joseph, his family, her family, and even her closest friends experienced this sudden change of direction. How about you? Have you ever experienced a “sudden curve in the road”? You are in a routine. Things are going as planned, and suddenly the Lord breaks into your routine and the direction of your life changes abruptly. I can testify to you that when this happens, you can still trust the Lord to work out His plan. Trust Him when you do not see or understand.
For today: Days of routine are nice. Days when things go the way I have planned are special. But it is when God changes my plans and turns me in a different direction that I really learn to trust, praise, and love Him.
