“I called upon the LORD in distress: the Lord answered me” (Psalm 118:5).
Yesterday I shared with you that years ago I was driving a bus which was loaded to the maximum with 5th and 6th grade students. The snow picked up remarkably as I approached the Kirkwood Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River outside of Conklin, New York. Halfway across the bridge, the driver’s side windshield wiper quit working. Suddenly, with nearly 60 faces behind me, I could not see ahead of me! I managed to get the bus stopped, but for those few seconds, keeping the passengers safe as their driver, being unable to clearly see the edge of the hood was pretty frightening. In my distress I cried out to the Lord. Silence swept the bus as the boys and girls realized that we were in trouble as we stopped suddenly halfway across the long bridge.
“Lord, I have all these children onboard. I need our help right away!” I prayed to Him. He answered. He wonderfully answered, and the long windshield wiper once again began to work. A cheer went up as we slowly began to roll across the bridge once more. The Lord doesn’t always answer so quickly. We’ll think more about that tomorrow. But for today, whatever distressful situation you are in, the Lord will answer you. His answer will be best. You can trust Him.
Something really great to remember today: Whatever distressful situation I am in, calling unto the Lord is always the wise thing to do.
