For the next few days, let’s focus on one word and embrace the meaning as we think of the Lord. While this word is not found in the Bible, the definition surely is there! I am thinking of the word JANNOCK. It is pronounced JAN-uhk.
This is an adjective that means “to be honest; fair; straightforward.”
Think of how this directly relates to Scripture.
“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men” (Romans 12:17).
“Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men” (2 Corinthians 8:21).
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
I know of only one who never ever lied, who never ever was dishonest. That is of course the Lord Jesus (John 14:6). Every person I have ever met has on one occasion or another been less than honest. But today is a fresh day for every believer. It’s a new day with new opportunities for us to be honest.
Walk through today with this thought: “Speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). Today, with the Lord’s help, I shall be truthful and tactful in my words and ways.
