“And they told him, and said, We came into the land whither you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:27-30).

The spies returned to Moses with a good news and bad news report. They confirmed that the land was a wonderful place and described it as a land that flows with milk and honey. This speaks about the sufficiency and the abundance of the promised land. That was the good news. The ten spies brought bad news. They reported that the land was filled with strong people, large cities, walls that were very tall and enemies that filled the land. They were sure that they could not overcome it. How soon they forgot the awesome power of God that brought them out of Egypt, through the Red Sea and before Mount Sinai. Caleb stands firm and strong and is not afraid to be in the minority. He speaks out against the unbelief and the wickedness of this evil report. Caleb speaks the truth and has been known through the centuries as a man who was willing to stand alone for what he knew to be right.

For today: I hope that you will not have to stand alone today. But if you do, the Lord Jesus will help you to be a Caleb indeed.
