“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9).
I love the word “refuge.” I am not a Hebrew scholar, but I know that the Hebrew word for “refuge” is misgab pronounced “mis-gav’” and pictures “a high tower, a high fort, a strong, secure high place.” When a believer is going through oppressive situations, it is hard to adequately describe the powerful and precious security that is found in the LORD Himself. He truly is that strong, high tower, a secure retreat. Whenever I am counseling people who are going through difficult times, I always tell them to be careful not to drift away from the Lord. It seems to be such a common situation that in difficult days some folks drift away from God rather than running to Him. He longs to be your high tower, your secure fortress. Run to Him. Invest more time in the Word and with Him in prayer. Wait quietly before Him. You’ll be glad that you did. Precious security exists between the Lord Jesus and the troubled heart of the oppressed.
For today: Got problems? Cheer up! You have security awaiting you!
