“What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this” (John 13:7).
The disciples were confused, devastated, and filled with fear. They thought that this was the worst thing that could ever happen to them. The Lord Jesus had gathered the band of disciples together for one last time before He would go to the cross. He spoke to them of His leaving this world to go to His Father. They were beside themselves. Never did they want the Lord Jesus to leave them. I would have loved to have seen the way the Lord Jesus spoke to them about understanding their confusion in the present moment. His words promising them that they would understand soon may have fallen on deaf ears for the moment. I’ve often thought of His words to the disciples about not understanding now but someday it being made clear. I can testify that there have been many times in my life that I didn’t understand at the moment what the Lord was doing. How kind of the Lord Jesus to reassure us that He is in control and sees beyond this moment. I need to trust, obey, commit, and watch what the Lord is doing.
For today: I can fume, fuss, and fret about the situation. Or I can ask the Lord to give me faith to believe Him, trust Him, and follow Him. Which of the two do you believe that the Lord Jesus wants me to do?
