“The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain. But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me” (2 Timothy 1:16-17).
Not too many people wanted to be seen with the Apostle Paul at this terrible time in his life. Paul knew that his time was short and was no doubt going to face execution. He was an “enemy of the state” and to be in association with him could bring great difficulties. But none of these things slowed Onesiphorus. He apparently had a hard time finding Paul for it is reported that he had to search. Once he discovered Paul’s whereabouts, he was like a cool drink of water on a hot day to Paul. Think of it! We would be well advised to ask ourselves, “When was the last time I was like a cool refreshing drink of water on a hot day to someone else?” Very convicting question, isn’t it?
For today: May we seize the opportunities that the Lord places before us to be a such a person as Onesiphorus.
