“And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mountain, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us….And Aaron said unto them, break off the golden earrings…bring them unto me” (Exodus 32:1-2).
I am not sure which surprises me more. Is it the people who broke off their earrings to make an idol or Aaron who suggested it? These dear people were eyewitnesses of the power of the living God Who had delivered them from Egypt. They had walked through the Sea on dry ground. His miracles were powerful and abundant. Yet in a moment when the situation was not as they planned, quickly they turned to their own man made ideas. Here’s a good lesson for us. When we aren’t certain of the situation, be quick to run to the Lord, not away from Him. Be eager to learn more of His ways and less to jump to our conclusions.
For today: I want to honor the Lord and wait upon Him. How about you?
