I am thankful for days in Bible college and seminary. I sat under wonderful professors who were committed to the Lord and His Word. But I can tell you honestly, I learned as much in practical ways in each of the churches I was privileged to pastor. For today’s Daily Prescription, let’s start with some Scripture and then come with me to Erie County New York to a wonderful place called Marilla.
“And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: and I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship” (Exodus 31:1-3).
I am thinking back to the days when I was the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Marilla, New York. The Lord worked in very special ways, blessed the church family wonderfully, and as a result of that, several times the church family undertook major building projects.
I have no skills in construction.
I have absolutely no skill in building.
I have absolutely no understanding of blueprints.
When I was discussing this with the pulpit committee and considering whether or not the Lord might be leading my family and me to them as their pastor, I communicated this to them. They were very excited to have their pastor being the pastor and they would be the construction team.
I have often wondered if I felt just a tiny little bit like Moses. The building of the Tabernacle was extremely special indeed. God assured him that He had everything under control. Bezaleel, and later in the chapter a man by the name of Aholiab, would be the lead contractors in this project. God knew these men and equipped them for the task before them. You might be the Moses. Or you might be the Bezaleel and Aholiab, but whatever your task, do it to the glory of God. You are needed right where the Lord has placed you.
For today: How will this work out in your life today, you modern day Bezaleel and Aholiab?
