“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).

We spoke yesterday of Habakkuk and his growing perplexity with the sinfulness of his society and the way God was working. To this dismayed prophet God reminded, “The just shall live by his faith.” Yesterday I told you that as I am growing older, two things are taking place in my life. Here they are today.

First, I am growing more and more saddened by the increasing sinfulness in our society. The effects of wickedness and sin are very hard to endure.

Second, I am growing more and more confident that God is Who He says He is.

I am stronger than ever in my personal conviction that our awesome God is the Sovereign Who can be trusted, known, and loved. I want my heart to be tender and trusting. How do we receive this faith? It comes through investing time in His Word and thereby getting to know Him better.
