“Here We Go Again!” An Update on My Karen
November 19, 2015
Several have written and asked about an update on Karen. Thank you so very much for asking. As I said, “Here we go again!” Twenty-one days have flown by. It’s time once again for Karen’s next round of chemotherapy.
I really find it hard to communicate to you our friends how thankful we are that you care and are interested. It is a joy to give you an update and tell you about my dear wife. This morning on the way to the blood labs, I prayed with her as I usually do. I asked the Lord to please bring into Karen’s life this morning special blessings that we weren’t even anticipating.
The Lord did indeed bring such blessings. First, as we walked into the Cancer Treatment Center there were two very dear friends from the First Baptist Church of Elyria. She is receiving treatment at the same facility and her dear husband always accompanies her. It’s a joy to see them and to speak with them briefly. They always brighten our day when we get to see them. Second, our clinical research nurse is also a believer and it is always a blessing to spend time with her as she fills out the paperwork for Karen. Third, a great blessing was that Karen didn’t have some of the side effects in this round that she typically experiences. Any lessening of any side effect is a cause for celebration! Fourth, as she was about to have her blood drawn from her port, the registered nurse in the infusion center teased her and asked if she ever heard of Karen Peck the singer? It was a special and unexpected blessing to be able to chat with her while she drew Karen’s blood. Lastly, all of Karen’s blood work numbers were good so everything is a go for her next infusion tomorrow morning.
We do have several prayer requests to share with you. First, the terrible taste in her mouth is really heavy especially for the first two weeks after the infusion. It does lighten somewhat by the third week; but not much. This taste causes her to be nauseated at times. Often her food doesn’t taste right. Some foods even taste terrible. She never complains. But I would surely appreciate your prayers in this. Second, please be asking the Lord to keep her from viruses. Even common colds might not be so common for her. Third, please ask the Lord to help us to be able to continue to share her story with those who need the Lord. We know beyond any shadow of doubt that the Lord has allowed this to come into our lives for a purpose. You are so kind to walk with us on this journey. We thank the Lord for you dear friends.
“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day unto now; being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:3-6).
