Important Prayer Request and Update on My Karen
Thursday February 4th, 2016
“But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10).
The Book of Job vividly depicts the plight of poor Job. What agonies and indignities he suffered. We are awed at the great privilege that is ours to get a look, be it a brief glimpse, behind the experience of the patriarch. We get to view for a brief moment the sovereign working of God Who is under full control of everything and Who has a plan that will result ultimately in His Own glory.
When you love someone who is going through deep difficulties sometimes it is easy to lose sight of the sovereignty of God Who is fulfilling His plan, equipping His child, mapping out the route, and carrying our loved one and us in His arms (Isaiah 40:11). It is wonderful to know that our great God understands how incredibly weak we are. He knows how much we need Him. What a great God to Whom we belong.
Here’s the update on my Karen. Today she is feeling pretty well. She is far enough away from her last infusion that to be honest with you, I feel like I have my old Karen back. (I don’t mean old in a sense of years of age. I mean old as to that which was the former! Let me straighten that out right away!) It has been great to see her enjoying the taste of her food. It has been fun to have her pick on me and for us to laugh together. She has enjoyed Hunter’s basketball games. She screamed at the refs! She’s stayed up late watching the Cavs and yelled loud enough that I wondered if the neighbors heard screaming coming from our house? She was even well enough that we could attend the seniors luncheon at our church. It has been a great week.
Here’s the prayer request for my Karen. On Friday she will have her blood levels tested and then her next round of chemotherapy. We appreciate the results that this medicine is accomplishing. The latest CT scan demonstrated that the mass has been arrested. Though it is not gone (which I would greatly prefer) it has been stopped from further growth. So thank the Lord with us for this. Please be praying that the medication will be effective. I know that Karen would greatly appreciate your prayers. Typically she will start to not feel so well on Sunday afternoon. By Monday and Tuesday she really won’t be feeling well. Throughout the rest of the week she will gradually start feeling a little better.
We both so greatly appreciate our many friends who have made the personal decision to come along on our journey with us. We so appreciate your friendship. We treasure your encouragements and prayers. How blessed we are having you in our lives and in our hearts.
