In Came the Oldest Members of the Church! You might be surprised at what they were doing!

“Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant” (Malachi 2:14).

Pastor Kenward and several members of the church family were standing in the foyer of the church one Sunday morning. In came the oldest members of the church, a husband and wife, married seventy-one years. Though living with their daughter, the elderly couple still enjoyed reasonably good health. The foyer lit up with their joyful presence. Guess what? As they walked in, they were holding hands. “Some folks think we hold hands to keep each other from falling. But truth be told, we actually like each other. In fact, we’re almost getting used to each other,” Franklin said with a smile. Everyone around them chuckled as well. From our verse today, the idea of companionship flows from understanding the covenant we made at marriage. If you are a married person, I hope that your relationship will be a sweet companionship based on the covenant you made with the Lord and each other.

Love each other as the Lord has love you.

Be quick to forgive and extend grace.

Don’t take each other for granted.

Enjoy your time together.

Learn to be a good communicator by becoming a good listener.

Keep the Lord central in your relationship. Pray together. Read the Bible together.

Be as wise as Franklin and his wife.

For today: Don’t let little things keep you from enjoying sweet companionship. Little things not dealt with can turn into bigger things.
