“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

I’ve shared with you about Frank and Jackie driving to the hospital for the birth of their baby. Her labor had become intense quite suddenly. On the way to the hospital, with at least twenty more minutes until they would arrive at Mercy Hospital, their car had broken down. In desperation they had pleaded with the Lord for help.

Before they had finished praying, Sgt. John Deluca (changed his name) was tapping on their window asking if they needed help. It was apparent that they couldn’t wait for the volunteer ambulance responders to arrive. Into his squad car they were helped, and off to the hospital they had gone with emergency lights and siren activated.

In one of his calm professional radio transmissions, he had radioed, “Have Mercy ER standing by. We are about ten minutes out, our third passenger is coming soon.”

Within a minute or two Dispatch had responded, “Dispatch to car Charlie seven, ER is standing by. Their team is waiting curbside.” Twelve minutes later they pulled into the ER canopy of Mercy Hospital. Three nurses and the ER doctor met them at the door of the squad car. Their baby was born before they got to the ER cubical. If their radiator had not blown a hose, they would not have made it to the hospital in time. What appeared to be the very worst thing that could happen, was an amazing gift from our very good God.

For today: Maybe your Romans 8:28 moments won’t be quite this dramatic, but they will be just as precious as you watch the Lord working in your life.
