In my emails this morning, I received the following from Spark Trivia. This question was posed:

What organ did Dr. Christian Barnard transplant in 1967? The choices are:

A. Spleen B. Heart C. Brain D. Liver

The answer of course is the human heart. It was December 3, 1967, at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Tragedy struck the family of the twenty-five-year-old lady fatally injured in a car accident. Her heart was used as Lewis Washkansky became the first successful heart transplant patient. Oh friends, cardiac transplant is still a very major situation. But it has come a long way from those early days.

Heart transplants are an amazing blessing to the recipient, but they come at a severe cost to the family of the donor. It makes me think about our spiritual life, called our spiritual hearts. When we place our trust in the Lord Jesus alone to be our Savior, it’s like He gives us a spiritual heart transplant. Someday when we go Home to be with the Lord, sin will be totally removed from us. While this is yet in the future, we surely have had our hearts changed now, haven’t we?

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit will I put within you” (Ezekiel 36:26).
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37).
“I will give them a heart to know that I am the LORD, and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart” (Jeremiah 24:7).

A new heart! Oh what a wonderful change in our lives takes place when we are born anew by trusting Christ as Savior.
