“…His abundant mercy…” (1 Peter 1:3).
I confess. I broke into the middle of the verse and lifted these three words from the glorious sentence of Peter’s praise for the Lord. But think of it. Peter is speaking of the Father’s abundant mercy. The word “abundant” is the Greek word polys which gives the idea of “much, many, or great.” The precious word “mercy” is eleos which means “kindness or good will toward the miserable and afflicted, joined with a desire to help them.” When we view ourselves the way the Lord views us, even my best attempts are miserable. I need the Lord’s mercy, and frankly, I rejoice that our Father is abundant in mercy. How will this affect you today?
For today: You will never hear me say, “Give me what I deserve!” I rejoice that my family, friends, and especially my Father, have dealt in mercy toward me.
