“And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard His word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving” (Luke 10:40).
Hundreds of sermons, lesson notes, commentaries, and discourses have noted that Martha was frazzled because suddenly many guests were now in her home and apparently meal time was approaching. Bless her heart, Martha was deeply concerned about being hospitable. That was important to her. Frankly, it really annoyed her that Mary sat at Jesus’ feet as He was teaching. “Get out here in this kitchen, girl!” she must have been thinking. Maybe her thoughts were even worse. Obviously, I am not a lady, a Martha. But I can tell you that in my heart I am very convicted about this text. In every life, whether man or woman, there are many details to which we must give attention. However, there is something more important by far. Before the details comes sitting at His feet. Have you read His Word today and listened?
For today: I can get caught up in the details. While they are important, nothing compares to time invested with Him.
