“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2).
Written approximately seven hundred years before the birth of the Christ Child, Micah predicted with precision the place where the Promised One would be born. As you well know, there was more than one Bethlehem. Thus Micah added the name “Ephratah to pinpoint the location. It reminds me of a conversation that Jim was having with a young couple who were faced with a particular unsettling event in their family. “I obviously don’t have the answer as to what you should do. Selfishly, I would love to have you stay right here with us,” Jim said. “But I know that the offer to join the division in Detroit would be a great promotion as well,” he continued. “I can tell you this. Remember a few Sundays ago when our pastor spoke on the birth of Christ and how the Sovereign God was very precise and very powerful? Well folks, I believe as we look to the Lord that likewise He will make the right decision very clear to you,” Jim concluded. His counsel was very wise and very good.
For today: How great it is to know that our awesome God is sovereign. I want to trust Him as He works out the details of my life. How about you?
