“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver” (Proverbs 25:11).
It was his first day of his internship in a large and seemingly thriving church. Several associate pastors worked with this lead pastor, and together they functioned beautifully as a team. The intern, Rick, would serve with the church for three months and would be exposed to practical ministry opportunities during his time. After staff prayer meeting, the lead pastor welcomed Rick and shared with him a little more what his internship would look like. And then the lead pastor turned to him and quietly said, “The Lord has been working in our lives and the life of His church family on this campus. Every day we remember that our hearts are deceptive, our motives can become selfish, and our tongues are deadly. So Pastor Rick, guard your heart. Keep your motives pure. Watch what you say and how you say it. We expect from each other that our words will comply with Proverbs 25:11. Your first assignment this morning is to memorize that verse and prepare devotions based on this verse for prayer meeting next week. It’s great having you with us.” It was good for the intern. It’s great for us.
For today: Watch your words and tone. They will either bless or bruise those around you!
