“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren” (Proverbs 6:16-19).
Before office hours began in their department, several of the employees had permission to hold a Bible study at their workplace. The stipulation was that everyone in the department must be invited. However, no one was to be coerced into coming. It was a delightful blessing every Tuesday morning. On one such occasion the group had been discussing things that God hates. “We hear a lot today about God’s love, but here clearly are things that are detestable to the Lord,” said Frank. “I agree,” Joan added. “I need to guard my heart so that not only do any of these things not take place in my own life but also that I never become complacent and indifferent to any of these.” Curt was quiet for a moment but then added, “I’ll confess that while I’m capable of any of these things, pride is something that I can easily have to battle. Will you pray that the Lord will remove my ‘proud look’?” he said with sincerity and humility. It was a tender moment in the Bible study.
For today: When I consider Who the Lord is and who I am, there isn’t much of proud look left. How about you?
