As I mentioned yesterday, I’m reading through the book of Numbers in my personal quiet time. Today I read what is commonly referred to as the Aaronic Benediction. Aaron, the brother of Moses and the first in the line of the priesthood of the children of Israel, was given this benediction to pronounce over the congregation. I love it. I know it is Old Testament. But I love it because there are such beautiful principles in which we rejoice in the New Testament age of grace. Think of this with me.
“Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise you shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: the LORD make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace” (Numbers 6:23-26).
Imagine living in the desert along with hundreds of thousands of people. Imagine you are traveling to a country to which you have never even visited. You are carrying on the duties of life and existence and you are very much in the wilderness traveling along in an unfamiliar place.
Look for the Lord’s blessings. They will be many.
Understand the Lord is keeping you. What a powerful promise.
Rejoice in the Lord’s nearness. By faith see His face shining upon His people.
Celebrate His countenance upon them. As a delighted father lifts up his child, so the Lord lifts up His children.
Praise Him for His grace. This is an abundant gift indeed.
What wonderful blessings come to the believers and followers of the Lord Jesus. I don’t know what you are facing today. Perhaps it feels like you are in a wilderness stretch right now. Be watching for His blessings today.
