“Thou shalt not steal” (Exodus 20:15).
What a strange sign hung over the exit from the factory. “Thou shalt not steal. Moses we trust. All others must be ready for inspections!” Craig, the new employee, walked from the workers’ exit. “What’s up with the sign?” he asked the guys in the small group. Tim answered as they continued walking, “Several years ago tools were disappearing faster than they could be reordered. The owner called a meeting. He spoke quietly about the family business now being in the third generation. He spoke of how his grandfather and father considered the workers to be part of their family. He wanted to do the same thing. He addressed the issue of the stealing with a simple verse from Exodus in what we call the Ten Commandments. That day he hung the sign up, and we’ve seen it every day since.” As they continued walking to their cars Craig asked, “So how often do you have to open your bags for inspection?” The other men chuckled as Ralph said, “Never, but we’re always ready.” What great advice for honest living.
For today: I need to be ready for any kind of inspection. What an encouragement for honest living.
