“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
“It’s a piece of junk, and I just want it out of the way,” he said in his typical grouchy voice. “This clock was supposed to be so great, and I got it home and it never worked right for me. If you want it, you can have it. Just get it out of my way before I throw it away!” he said with a louder than typical voice. With that the young teenager brought the clock home and leveled the nearly seventy–year-old timepiece. It ran beautifully. It just needed an adjustment and some leveling off. Years later the teenager would become a pastor who thought of the clock as he was counseling a couple regarding their marriage. After taking them to Ephesians 2:10 he said to them, “I know that you both profess to know Christ. You are His workmanship. Let me tell you a story about one of my clocks. Just like you, it needed to be adjusted and leveled off.” It was a great appointment with others to follow.
For today: If you know Christ, you are His workmanship. He’s created you for good works. Do you need any adjusting or leveling off? (By the way, you might want to know that that clock is now about 125 years old. It’s still ticking away as I am writing this Daily Prescription today.)
