“And He said, A certain man had two sons: and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want” (Luke 15:11-14).
That young man was convinced there was a better way to live his own life than what was taking place in his father’s jurisdiction. Off he traveled with his share of the inheritance to a place where there would be partying and celebrating his newfound freedom. Something curious happened, however. After the funds were gone, the people with whom he partied were also gone. Lois had to learn the same lesson the hard way. She rebelled against just about everything her parents cherished. Leaving their home against their wishes, she found a crowd that was more than happy to introduce her to “real living.” It took a while, but eventually her resources dried up and the wild life left her feeling empty and homesick. Do you know someone like Lois? More about this tomorrow.
For today: There is no better way to live than putting the Lord Jesus, His Word, and His will foremost in our hearts.
