“A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps” (Proverbs 16:9). NKJV
I love how the writer of Proverbs vividly explains, “Go ahead and make your plans. But don’t be surprised if the Lord changes them and sends you in a different direction than you were planning.” That is exactly what our text for today is saying. That is exactly what happened to Hank. He had just said to his wife, “I’m off to the coffee shop to spend an hour with the church guys” when the phone rang and his day totally changed. That is just exactly what happened to Claire. She had just thought, “The whole rest of the day to myself. This is incredible” when the text came from the school nurse that Jimmy was throwing up and would she please come and get him. Over and over again this happens. Maybe it has just happened or will yet happen to you before long. It’s alright to be disappointed, but wise believers trust the Lord, respond in faith, watch for the way He is going to work, and always remember He is the Lord and they are not. He is in charge. I am His servant.
For today: So when the Lord changes your plans the next time, rather than being angry, be accepting and trust Him.
