“Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave Himself for our sin, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God our Father” (Galatians 1:3-4).
Don closed his Bible reading and sat just a moment longer at his desk. The sunrise was just breaking, and already his backyard was filled with the music of birds that seemed to be eagerly celebrating the dawning of another day. It was exactly two years ago that Don and his wife Elaine had placed their trust in the Lord Jesus for their salvation. Previous to this, they had both been religious and attended church often. But everything they had done was an attempt to somehow do enough good things to win the forgiveness of God Who somehow just might grant them a place in Heaven. Then they had moved next door to Marty and Elizabeth. Through their testimony Don and Elaine had come to understand the wonderful truth about the Lord Jesus. They had learned about His death upon the cross and His powerful resurrection. They had discovered that Christ paid the penalty in full for their sin. It was a joy to place their trust in Him alone. Once again Don whispered to the Lord, “I’m so glad that we learned that You gave Yourself for our sins. I could never be forgiven apart from you Lord. Thank you, Lord.”
For today: Salvation is not doing good works. It is trusting the perfect Savior.
