“Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of Heaven concerning this secret. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel” (Daniel 2:17-18).
There was a crisis in the kingdom. It was a very big crisis indeed. Nebuchadnezzar, the wicked and violent king had a dream that troubled him. He wanted the “wise men” of his kingdom to not only interpret the dream, he wanted them to verify the authenticity of their interpretation by describing the dream itself. Of course, there was not a wise man in the court that could do this that day. In his fury, Nebuchadnezzar ordered all the wise men to be slain (2:12). Talk about an arrogant tyrant! We may get frustrated with our leaders today, but how would you like to live under the administration of Nebuchadnezzar? I am so impressed with Daniel. The king’s proclamation drove him to prayer. He reported the situation to his colleagues and invited them to join him in prayer. He prayed. God powerfully answered. What a great lesson. Whatever you are facing today, before you do anything, be sure to pray. Ask others to join you (Daniel 2:17).
For today: Lord, please help us to be a people of prayer. May we trust You fully today.
