“He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame” (Proverbs 10:5).
Solomon loved to give instruction through his writing. Here in Proverbs chapter ten, he uses a great teaching method to communicate truth, the tool of contrast. Throughout the text, Solomon contrasts a wise believer and an unwise believer. Wise people gather in summer. Shameful people sleep through the harvest. This gives the idea of one who is working diligently and wholeheartedly. He is also storing away a portion of the harvest. Unwise people snooze away in laziness during the harvest. Let’s face it. Work is hard. Probably at times we all have grumbled about our work. But let’s remember to thank the Lord for His provision. Ask Him to give us wisdom in the way we work and manage our funds. We must avoid anything that will be as unwise as sleeping away through the days of harvest.
For today: Bring the Lord into every part of your life, and ask Him to make you wise as you work and gather!
