“Be ye doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22).
“The County Sheriff has asked you to please stay off the highways as the roads have become pretty much impassible in places. We have high standing water, trees and light poles down along with power lines across many roads from the storm. He is asking you to please take very seriously the dangerous conditions throughout the county and please stay home and in your homes for your own protection,” the uniformed officer said on the local news program. Some of the people listening acted wisely upon that which they heard. They stayed home and off the roads. Did Randy and Richard (names changed), two teenagers from the northwest corner of the country? Of course not! They heard the telecast, but they didn’t do what they were asked to do. Both had to be rescued because they didn’t listen and comply. There are good lessons for us in our listening and doing what the Lord says in His Word. We need to heed His warnings!
For today: Lord, please help me not to be a listener only. Please help me to do what you tell me to do.
